Guess who’s down 1 pound this morning? That’s right, me. Even cooler? One reader is down 5 lbs and another 2.5 lbs! How are you faring?
Comments on facebook are mostly positive. One reader said she was starving and tired, but she had only consumed the smoothies and the salad. You need the soups and veggies people! If you’re eating much less than 1,200 calories on this plan you’re going to bonk, so eat your veg!
Lunch, Garbanzo Greek Salad 1/2 head red leaf lettuce with balsamic vinaigrette, garbanzos, tomato, carrot, red onion, cucumber and tofu feta.
Tofu Feta: press 1 block extra firm tofu for several hours or overnight. Crumble into a container. Drizzle with 3 T. lemon juice and sprinkle with 1/2 t. sea salt then stir. Refrigerate overnight for best flavor.
Afternoon Meal: Blueberry Vanilla Smoothie
For snackage today I’ll be steaming some spinach (1 C. steamed) drizzle with a bit of bragg’s liquid aminos and a few grinds of black pepper if you want to copy me
Planned Cardio Exercise for today: 60 minutes on the keister busting Spin Bike
Don’t forget to rock out while you work out! It makes it a million times more awesome.
Dinner Tonight: Quinoa Minestrone bubbling away in the slow cooker now.

You go!! I’m going to make a SALAD because I don’t feel like dirtying up the kitchen. Make it, eat it with my hands out of the same bowl, rinse bowl, put bowl away, DONE. Too much to do today.
PS — Great show on Diane Rehm yesterday about metabolic disorder. (http://thedianerehmshow.org/shows/2013-01-07/dr-robert-lustig-fat-chance-beating-odds-against-sugar-processed-food-obesity-and-d). It leads to the same conclusion I’ve always known: eat plants. Plants give you everything you need and nothing you don’t need.
Perfect idea! I’ll have to check out the link. Someone just emailed me an article about how to fight cancer with the Atkins type diet. So mad I could spit. BECAUSE the exact opposite is true.
Play the show (it’s an hour) while you’re prepping in your kitchen or folding laundry. Rehm is a great mediator and host and her shows are always insightful.
Tomorrow while the little one goes to preschool
!
Wow you rock girl, fantastic!!!
Thanks Anne!
Everything looks so good Somer, especially the blueberry vanilla smoothie! All the veggies look wonderful. That is too funny about the person skipping food…well of course she’d starve! It seems like a lot of great food to me.
It is a lot of food! Many people find out it’s too much for them. Me on the other hand, I eat like a horse and nibble every last bit!
Just the sound of the bubbling minestrone in my mind is making my mouth salivate. I made the squash soup last night and today I will make the hummus and that vanilla smoothie. Delish….
Awesome! Glad you guys are doing this with me. It rocks!
good job everything you ever put on here makes me want to eat it that second ! that tofu feta looks awesome!
Thanks Kaity! I’m loving the tofu feta!
Such an inspiration! I did have a green drink today, and plan on a great salad tonight. I have lots of cilantro I need to use.
Mmm, Cilantro is my favorite!
We’re going strong on Day 2!!
I feel AWESOME
My mouth is watering! Thank you for this incredibly delicious AND healthy inspiration
Cheers! Gina
No worries Gina! Thanks for stopping by!
Way the go SOMER!
Thanks babe!
That Minestrone looks soooo good! What a crazy diet with such yummy foods? Great job to you Somer
Haha! I love that minestrone….! Thanks Angela!
I made a trip to Costco right? props on your motivation. sorry I didn’t join you, but I’m trying to feed the little rascal who won’t eat solids and calories are proving insufficient!
I meant you. but you knew that right?
And yes, I know you meant me
Um, yes, you need to not be breast feeding or pregnant to do this challenge. YOU need mega calories girl
Waw! You rock power woman! You eat great & your work out great too!
I am not yet ready for green smoothies. I made a few & detested the flavours! Maybe, some day!
Your quinoa slow cooked meal looks so delicious! Your blueberry vanilla smoothy looks great & appetizing too!
Start with just a few leaves of baby spinach and add a few more each time. Soon you’ll be a convert and go for KALE!
That’s a great & tasty idea! I like it!
xxx
Well. Nothing like having a cold to make me crave healthy food. Maybe my body is just helping me out.
The salads and soups are totally hitting the spot. No cardio again today, though. I did get outside for a long walk. Thank you for being so inspiring. It’s helpful to know there are so many of us eating green.
Good on you for going for a walk. You’re still providing your body with tons of Amazing nutrition by doing this. Hopefully you’ll kick that cold a little faster.
I’m actually on day 3 – I started on Sunday…it was time! I am down 5.8 lbs and couldn’t be happier! Groggy yesterday due to lack of sugar!!! But feel great today. It’s so nice to wake up hungry in the morning!!
GRINNING EAR TO EAR! WOOT! Great job! It is tough to come off the sugar, but I’m proud of you for not falling off the wagon! Imagine what you’ll accomplish in a week!
Day 1 for this little black duck…made a tea compromise and had a chai blend rather than straight (so less leaves in the bag
) and a little homemade cashew milk…will only have 1 cup a day to stop that headache…I harvested heaps of spinach from the garden and made a lovely smoothie with some of it and whilst typing about it (before drinking it) I made a note to self…”make sure to drink your chia laced smoothie BEFORE you head off to blog about it or you are going to have the equivalent of frog spawn infested pond slime to drink”…lucky I am a seasoned health nut and this is one of the least gross things that I have choked down in the name of health before today!
Day 1 commenced sergeant, all present and accounted for MA’AM!
At ease soldier!
Great job Fran! Can’t wait to hear how it goes for you. So fun to have so many people involved.
Its gone viral girl! You will be like Psy soon…might have to do a vid of you spinning to accompany it
Um no videos, the reason I do spin and running for exercise is that I have absolutely no coordination to do any “classes” at the gym. I’d be the girl in the back looking like an idiot who is always 5 or more steps behind!
My pride would never survive…
Although I had planned on joining you this week, I had to bow out even before the start. I have been suffering a flare-up and have not been able to be up and about. I hope to start on Thursday… feeling better and will be able to get out tomorrow and get what I need. Good luck to you Somer!
Oh no! I hate flare ups! What autoimmune disorder do you have
I’ve got Ankylosing Spondylitis. Better today…going out to buy the foods I need!
Good luck my dear. Hopefully something like this will give you a boost to your health. Whole foods have lots of healing powers. xx
Go you!! You’re on a roll! All of the food looks fabulous, and you’re totally right that rocking out while exercising is a huge energy boost. The right song can push me to work out longer and harder every time! I’m glad that people are doing so well with the cleanse!! Awesome!!
There’s actually research behind athletes feeling less pain, having more endurance, and feeling altogether stronger when they train with music they love. Incredible. If my Ipod dies during a workout, so do I. It’ pathetic. This has garnered way more of a response then I thought. Pretty incredible. People are losing all kinds of weight and many are inspired to go plant based. LOVE.
Minestrone looks great – I’m not following the diet, but it’s great that it’s working! Congrats guys… Good ideas, Somer! I have no idea what I weigh, but I know it’s like 2 stones lighter than I was a few years ago
TWO STONES?!? You look a healthy weight now! I put my scale away for most of the year, but the holidays did me in and gave me a wake up call
People are having huge success with this, which is super rewarding.
Also, do we have to call it a cleanse? It’s such a gross word…
Nope, lets just call it the Green Smoothie Challenge….. I hear you!
Behind on my email, just reading this today. I will start this Friday
is the weightloss lasting or just the loss of water weight?
It’s lasting weight loss! Same principle of calorie reduction + excercise + massive fiber = awesome weight loss!
I have printed everything and I’m excited to start. Thanks for posting this.
AWESOME! I’ve read your progress in another comment. Proud of you!
Wow somer, the recipes look awesome i am starting on tue since i have to work all weekend and nothing is normal when that happens. Cant wait to try all these new things but i will have to do the smoky bean soup one night as it is still my (lick the bowl clean) favorite.
Donna! The smoky black bean soup is all yours! It’s still approved on the challenge. You’ll love all the new smoothie recipes as well. xx
