Green Smoothie Challenge

orangejulius2

Have you heard that people often gain 5-10 pounds over the holidays? Well, I’m embarrassed to say I’m part of that club this season. A lot of sitting around and eating vegan convenience foods, sleep deprivation due to illness, too much Holiday FeastingVegan Chocolate and not enough movement are all part of the problem. The solution?

Go ahead, click on the link above. It’s the new and improved printable plan. You’re Welome ;)

I’d love you to join me. You can safely lose up to 5-10 lbs in one week if you follow the plan. It’s been tested by dozens of friends and family members. Those that need to lose more can continue the plan for as long as they want. I’ll be starting on Monday and documenting the Challenge through the week. No starving or calorie counting involved. And no, it’s not just smoothies. I’ll talk to you on Monday, my skinny jeans are going to be waiting for me…

  1. HI Somer,
I want to do your green smoothie challenge but I don’t see the breakdown of ingredients. Am I missing something?…

  2. No way, it has a use counter? If my VM had that feature it’d be whining ;-) I use my VM 3-4 times a day! :-D

  3. Hi! This was a great series of posts! I’m inspired to give it a ago. I need a good nutritional kick up the backside :) Thanks!

  4. Hi there. Cute series. I graduated from the U of U years ago but live on the east coast. It’s great to see vegan restaurants are now available there! I have a great Green Smoothie recipe too, check it out here: http://asilentcure.org/greensmoothie

  5. I’m so excited to have stumbled on your blog. Its awesome.
    The recipes look amazing.

    • Amber! I’m glad you stumbled here as well! I appreciate the compliment. I’m new to blogging and just figuring this whole thing out, but it’s a lot of fun!

  6. I can’t wait to try this! I’m going to start tomorrow I think. Hope I find it as doable as you did!

  7. I am going to try this starting Monday :)

  8. Hi….really interested in trying your Green Smoothie Challenge……one question: What is your take on Soy Milk / Almond Milk, and coconut water. Would you ever add those to the smoothies?

Thanks! Love the blog. I’m trying to make my way into the Vegan world!

    • I almost always just add water I think it’s delicious that way. Adding plant milk makes a smoothie creamier, but also denser in calories. It’s totally up to you. If I were to do it, I would add unsweetened almond milk, which only has 30-40 calories per cup and just add half almond milk, half water. :)

  9. Is there something I can replace the chicken with? I don’t eat meat of any kind….

  10. Is there something I can eat besides chicken? I don’t eat meat of any kind :)

I’m just starting this challenge today, and I made a really awesome smoothie that I wanted to share with you. I didn’t actually measure my ingredients, so unfortunately I don’t have specific quantities, but I figure smoothies are easy enough for people to just wing it, and whatever quantities I used ended up producing just over 1 quart.

I used 1 banana, 1 orange (and included a small piece of the rind — such a good decision), frozen dark cherries, 2 cups of spinach (I did measure that), and some water.

This was actually my first time using cherries in a smoothie, but I think this is definitely a new favorite.

  19. Just looking at the dressing recipes in this challenge made me want salad (and I don’t even remember the last time I had one)! I made the Oil Free Goddess Dressing today and its great! The salad I smothered with it is here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=390409041051223&set=a.349597255132402.81848.345213952237399&type=1&theater

  22. I haven’t followed it to the letter but it’s given me really good ideas and good recipes to base my own meal plans. It just makes you feel really good and healthy. I really liked the Goddess Salad and the Chocolate blueberry smoothie and the black bean soup. The challenge helped me stock my refrigerator for a lot of healthy options and it’s helped me lose some weight.

    • Proud of you girl! I loved reading your comments on facebook during the challenge too! I adore having so much awesome produce around. Thanks Birgit!

      • I didn’t have a great week last week and gained 1 lb. but I have been working out a lot and I went out to eat one night and to a party too. This morning I got a NEW blender (my husband got me one because of all my smoothie action!) and I made a chocolate/almond milk/greens/raspberry and banana breakfast smoothie and it was great! I plan a big salad and soup for lunch! I have shared your blog with a lot of my health conscious and vegan friends and they really like it.

  31. So I tried some of the recipes in your challenge and LOVED the mango madness and blueberry vanilla smoothies so far. However, I was more hungry after the smoothies than before (maybe a sugar thing) so I added pea protein and it really helped. Also, the Moroccan lentil soup was amazing! The warming spices made my kitchen smell like an Indian restaurant, which I loved. It was WAY too expensive for me ($150 at Whole Foods for 1 week of groceries). But, I will freeze the soups so I have enough for next week. I can tell you put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this challenge, so great job! Thanks a bunches!

Hi Somer! This challenge looks great, thanks so much for posting! I am going on vacation in just over a week and am planning to start when I get back. I am just wondering two things: first, could you possibly update the printable challenge plan with the new recipes you used during the week? I was thinking of doing it myself but realised others might want it as well for shopping/planning purposes. Second, am I okay to have green tea as my unsweetened herbal tea? I am hoping it is not off limits because of the caffeine!

    • Ally, thanks for your questions. I won’t be updating the online challenge since I’ve got some other things in the works for the Green Smoothie Challenge, and for right now, I don’t want it to get to be 20 pages or something that people don’t want to print. Thanks for the suggestion though. Oh and green tea is off limits because of the caffeine, but others have done the challenge without giving up their tea or coffee and have done just fine. My purpose with removing caffeine is to help people really be able to cleanse….
