Somer Goes Raw – Month of Giveaways

So it’s no secret that it’s been a very long hard winter for me. I’ve had every cold and flu. I fell on black ice, damaged a major muscle that doesn’t want to recover, I can’t even run! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ย So when I was offered a chance to do a 30 day mostly raw challengeย from Sun Warriorย I jumped on it. Raw food offers more nutrient content then cooked food and can facilitate healing. Even though my autoimmune diseaseย is in remission and I feel like I eat a very clean, high-ish sorta raw diet, my system was totally ready for a reboot.ย warrior way

I simply think being on immune suppressant drugs for Ulcerative Colitis for so many years really damaged my body. I’ll be featuring some raw posts of my own this month, but since I’m in uncharted territory and following recipes from the 30 day Challenge ย I’ll be bringing you some fun giveaways and maybe even a guest post or two! Stay tuned for these exciting giveaways….

This stuff rocks! You’re gonna love it!ย

    1. So depressing…. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ yeah, I perforated a muscle in my hamstring. Not healing. Lame. Keeping my fingers crossed that lots of nutrients will help.

  1. aw, i hope you are on the road to recovery soon! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ raw reboot helped me feel much better following major illness in my life. i hope it helps you as well. i did it for a little longer than 30 days, but it was great. a little challenging sometimes, but when i came out on the other side, i felt refreshed. good luck, somer! xx

    1. Thanks so much, I’m nearly at a week and the difference is amazing. I have a feeling I’ll be going high raw for the long term… There are challenges for sure, but when I don’t have anything prepared, just eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables gets me through. xx

  2. Great post, Somer. Something tells me you will reboot just fine. I don’t know if I could keep up with Scott Jurek, but I loved reading about him in Born to Run by McDougall.

    1. Thanks Jim! I think everything is gonna be okay too. Born to Run is one of my FAVORITE books. I’ve read it multiple times! This book is even better! So inspiring! And yeah, I could never keep up with him, no matter how many plants I eat! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. This has been a brutal virus season; took me 8 weeks and some potent antibiotics to finally get rid of a simmering sinus infection. I feel great now. Listen to your body, explore new things right now. I am interested in those liquid vitamins! Marsha

    1. I had an ear infection and a sinus infection. How does that happen to a grown adult? Argh. I loathe antibiotics, so you can guess that I put it off too long before going to see a doctor and kept trying to natural remedy myself…. to no avail. I felt like the antibiotics didn’t even help. But after 4 days raw, ALL my symptoms were gone…. Amazing. Oh and the liquid vitamins are the BOMB! Super excited to share them through the giveaway! That one is going to happen this Friday, so stay tuned! xx

    1. Hope you feel better and it sounds like you are on your way. Have you read the book, Soak Your Nuts, by Karyn Calabrese of Chicago? She’s a raw food advocate, 60+ and looks great. I used some elements of her cleanse and felt much better within days. Alas, I have slipped (sugar is a beast!) but it’s a journey.

      1. Can’t. Stop. Laughing! Soak your nuts! haha! So I’ve been wondering why all the raw foodists are endlessly soaking nuts. Something to do with the enzymes I think. I’ll have to look that one up. Sugar is a beast!

        1. Maybe it’s the enzymes and the cashew and other nut creams that are dairy substitutes. The author admits to the humor in the book’s title. The feenugreek capsules did help my sugar cravings a lot.

            1. Sorry to but in, I was laughing at that title too! Anyways, be careful with fenugreek…it reacts different with everybody. I only tried it for less than a week 3 and had major abdominal pain and bleeding…it was awful. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Once I quit, all the pain/bleeding ceased.

              1. Too funny! Minds in the gutter ๐Ÿ˜‰

I totally research before starting a new supplement, but I’m thankful for you sharing your advice! That sounds awful!

  4. Thank you Ms. Somer for this healthy & informative post. Hope your spring treats you better than your winter. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  5. BLEND LIKE YOUR’VE NEVER BLENDED BEFORE!!! I would love to do a raw food month, but im a pansy and canot deal with the weather, I realllllyyyy miss feeling as good as did when high raw. Hope all goes well and you recover!

    1. I SHALL! My Champion is covered in Kale smatter! Feeling so good! Do it this summer, if you’re into it….. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Warmer today finally. I need sunshine!

  6. Look out – a woman with a great plan! I’ll be very interested in your experiment and look forward to hearing about it.

    1. So far so good, I’ve gone raw for periods of time before (once 12 years ago for a full six months) but I didn’t have the right kitchen equipment or real know how back then. Much easier (and tastier) this round!

    1. Thanks so much Lucy! It is exciting! Feeding your body the right fuel I really believe can make all the difference. Thanks for following along! xx

    1. Interesting! I haven’t seen the Sunny Raw Kitchen! I’ll totally have to check her out! As for a raw VVP, that would be awesome, but it might be too exclusive! Thanks Angela! xx

    1. I thought the same thing, I just got pushed over the edge. I’ll do what I have to do to get my health to where it needs to be, I can’t stand being sick all the time! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. I haven’t stopped by in a while and I was really excited to see that you are doing a raw challenge. I LOVE your Green Smoothie Challenge. I’m rooting for you!

    1. Thanks so much Trish! I need lots of support! Yeah the green smoothie challenge is definitely high raw, but this is a whole ‘nother level! xx

  8. I am looking forward to hearing about your raw adventures. I am someone who needs focused “challenges” sometimes to help get me back on track. I love how much focus you are putting toward healing and nourishing your body. You’ve got my support.

    1. Aw! Yes, a challenge definitely helps! I really believe food has the power to heal, so I’m hoping for lots of wellness coming my way! Thanks for the support! xx

  9. I love challenges! It really pushes me to stick with something and make a change. I look forward to watching your journey through it, you always make them seem so exciting and fun to track. Good luck and I hope you start to feel better!

  10. I can’t wait to hear all about your month of raw! ‘Tis the season, I guess. A bunch of friends just challenged me today to do another raw cleanse beginning April 1. I accepted since we have such a great support group. ๐Ÿ˜‰ We are using Natasha Kyssa’s 28-day program. I look forward to hearing all about Sun Warrior’s (l love their chocolate powder) 30 day challenge.

  11. I hope you are feeling better Somer and enjoy the month of fabulous raw food – I am sorry to hear you have suffered through so much yuck so far this year. Good for you for taking it by the horns and wrestling it to the ground. Your body knows best and I can’t wait to hear all about it ๐Ÿ™‚ xo from HI!

    1. That’s exactly what I needed to do, take it by the horns and wrestle it to the ground! My body is all ready responding and it’s fabulous! I can’t believe you are blog reading from Hawaii!!!! Take a break girl, you’re on vacay! xxx Love your guts!

  12. Can’t wait to hear how your rawtastic month goes! Sending good thoughts your way! Maybe some sunshine will help us all – it’s been a cold UT winter!

    1. Yes Laurie! It’s been particularly rough! I’m so glad temps are finally rising, I really struggle with such a long winter (I’m from St. George). It’s only been a week and I’m feeling so much better. Ah, the power of Kale ๐Ÿ˜‰ xx

  13. That is wonderful!! I am sure you will love it and your body will shout hurray! Raw food is so amazing in so many ways – I wish I wasn’t traveling I would join you ๐Ÿ™‚ Looking forward to hearing about your raw adventures Somer! XXXX

  14. Hope this gives you the kick start you need to feel better. It’s been a long hard winter for me too, but I spent the weekend walking and look forward to getting out more with the coming warm weather. Heal fast!

  15. I hope your month of raw goes super well for you and you feel all rebooted come May… though I am sure it won’t take that long to feel the goodness of all that yummy raw food.

We are heading in to winter here at the bottom of the world… I dread all the heavy stodgy food that cold weather makes us crave. Longing for Spring already….:0)
