  1. You go girl! You’re a rock star and I actually know ya!! How cool is that for me?!!
Seriously, I’m so happy for your success…your passion and enthusiasm (not always the same thing ya’ know) are inspiring so many. Keep up the good work!! Hugs!

    1. Ha! Thanks Debbie, um, you are the one who got me going on the green smoothie, so there you go! Huge part of my transformation. I still drink a quart a day! I knew they existed, and I had drank a few at my hippie brother’s house, but I never made my own until you brought over those jars full of goodness! xoxo!

  2. What an amazing story! I had no idea you went through all of that. I loved reading your blog before but now I think I’m a true devotee 🙂

    1. You are really making me smile! Yes I went through hell, but I’m back and loving it. This is the reason I blog! This is the reason why I’m so passionate about plant based food. 🙂

    1. Thanks Heidi, I don’t know if it’s recognition I want, the reason I do this is that hopefully I can help someone else. So many with my condition (including me last year) feel hopeless and have no idea what to do except take lots of really harmful drugs. The only thing I take now is a multi-vitamin supplement. Love that!

    1. Funny thing, the testimonial is not actually attached to my blog in any way shape or form. It’s against their policy for some reason, so I don’t know how it will increase traffic here, but I am hoping it can touch others through their site. Forks over Knives means so much to me that I just want everyone to see its message.

      1. I found your blog through the FOK testimonial from someone who had posted in our FB group. Great story, great blog and I subscribed. Thanks for sharing your journey!

    1. Embarrassing really, but yes, I think people need to know that they can take control of their health. It’s a message so many people need right now. It’s sad how many are seriously killing themselves off with their diets. I only hope it will help people. Love you so much! xx

        1. You are all ready one of the biggest proponents for healthy eating that I know. So grateful to have you at my side promoting good food. Love yer guts.

  3. Congrats!!!!

I do not know you and yet I am so proud of you and honored to know you as a cyber *friend*. Had you not liked my Naughty Vegan Polenta Seitan Parmigiano on my blog, I would never have known you existed. Now I find myself inspired by you, on almost a daily basis.

p.s. despite being out sick from work yesterday (stomach issues), I managed to run a mile. My body resisted the entire time, but I felt if I could run, I might feel better and believe it or not, I did. I hope to make my ballet class tonight. I have missed the last 3 weeks due to work. 😦

    Congrats again!

    Your Cyber Buddy,
    Susan a.k.a. GiRRL_Earth

    1. Susan- Cyber buddies are the best! We’ve got to stick together! I don’t know many people who eat this way in my “real” circle so having this online support group really means so much to me. And holy crap, that Naughty Seitan Parmigiano was divine! Glad I can inspire you! To be honest all of this is a little overwhelming, but I’m so grateful at the same time. I feel like this is what I’m meant to be doing right now, helping others get healthy! Keep up the running and the ballet, you’re going to surprise yourself with your abilities! Much love!!! -Somer

      1. Thank you Somer. I don’t think I could have said it better.
        Much love back atcha baby!
and p.s. and I’m glad you enjoyed the recipe. 🙂
I’m going to make the pretzel buns you posted recently over the weekend (if I have time).

  4. How cool! It is just wonderful that your story will be shared with so many more people. We are indeed what we eat and you are healthy 🙂

    1. It is so going viral! Pure love for healthy eating! It makes me so happy. Thanks for being a part of this and for all your encouragement! 🙂

  5. I couldn’t have said it better (“holy f’in crap”)!! Congrats, Somer. I already commented on Amanda’s post (I saw hers first in my inbox this AM), but I am no less excited about it here! Glad to have found you, woman. Keep on keepin’ on. Healthy is good, isn’t it? Especially when you’re recognized for a successful approach in achieving it.

    1. I could have said other words, but since I’m Mormon and this is a PG blog, I thought I’d better refrain! 😉 Healthy is sooo good. Really grateful to have found you too. Truly overwhelmed, truly humbled.

  6. Wow!, Somer!! I had no idea you had a story like that! You are truly an inspiration and who wouldn’t be touched by your amazing example! I can’t wait to meet you! By the way, you are ROCKING that race photo!!

    1. Laurie! It’s been an emotional couple of days for sure. Now you know why I love this diet so much and why I’m really truly so passionate about it. If eating plants helped me so much, imagine what it can do for others! This is the reason I blog. Thanks for your sweet support and kindness. It means a lot to me, especially as a fellow sister, the girls in my neighborhood love me, but I don’t know that they understand this part of me and they probably think I’m just a little crazy 😉 Contact you soon my dear! xoxo

  7. Congrats! What an inspiring story. Besides the incredible accomplishment of overcoming your disease through healthy eating, it’s also hugely inspirational to read stories of endurance athletes thriving on a plant-based diet. It’s nice to have some examples like yourself to point to when explaining to people that you really don’t need animal protein for muscle recovery. Keep it up!

    1. Katie! Thanks so much! Guess what? I recover faster now than before I went plant based and run injury free so much more. I’m giving my body the fuel it needs to heal itself, and I love it! xx

    1. Thanks so much! I hope it not only touches people, but inspires them to change as well. So many are suffering that could benefit from a plant based diet! Hugs!

  8. That’s incredible Somer! Such a transformation!! I totally agree and concur with diet changing ones life. My husband and I went vegan because of my husband’s horrible gout disease. I’ve watched him suffer for many years so I knew things had to change. He, too, lost tons of weight! Vegan life is wonderful and you have come through your struggles beautifully. Way to go! 🙂

      1. Yes, it’s better but not 100%. He has a very extreme case. Even a lot of vegan foods he can’t eat like spinach, broccoli, lentils, beans…it’s really a challenge to cook for him! I cook a lot of food separately for me because I can’t live without those foods! 🙂

  9. Congratulations to you!! You look amazing, but I know what’s most important – that you feel amazing too! I love reading stories like yours because they inspire me, and you are living proof that this is the best way to eat and live.

  10. YOU ARE AMAZING!!!

I couldn’t agree with you more – I have been in remission and off meds for upper crohns for an entire year, the right foods and mid set really does have the capability of healing 🙂

  11. You are such a kick-ass, amazing, inspirational woman! I showed your pictures to Chris, and I said proudly “That’s my friend Somer.” He was amazed, as I’m sure everyone else is. You just keep on rockin’ it, girl! You are changing lives! xo

    1. Thanks Ana! Feeling so much joy over this, not because I want to be in the limelight, but because this being on the FOK site is seriously sending so many people the right message. It’s getting a phenomenal response!
